Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept online payments?

At the present time we do not accept payments online, once you place an order online we will contact you regarding payment. We accept payments over the phone via a debit or credit card. If you live in the local area you can also pop into our office to pay in person.

Can I pay by cheque or bank transfer?

Yes but funds will have to be cleared before your order can go into production.

Why do you send me a proof when I have supplied the artwork?

This is so that you can check that everything you see is correct. Images and text can drop out of PDFs, fonts don’t always embed and pages can be corrupt. It also gives you the opportunity to make sure you have uploaded the correct file for printing.

What file types do you accept – can I send a Word document?

We prefer PDF files. We will not accept Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel or Publisher files for printing purposes. If you’re struggling to prepare your file/artwork please get in touch or visit the ‘Artwork’ page on our website for more information.

What is a PDF?

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is used for transferring files between computers and ensures that the file displays exactly the same to the end user as it did to the creator, regardless of differences in their computer systems. Whilst a PDF might look OK on screen it must meet certain criteria to ensure that it prints correctly. A PDF meeting these criteria is print-ready. Please visit the ‘Artwork’ page on our website for more information.

How do I send my print-ready file/artwork?

Once payment has been made and you have an order reference number you can upload your file via our website or send it to paul@firpress.co.uk

What is bleed?

This is an extra amount of the background/image which extends beyond the trimming edge of the page. This ‘extra’ gets chopped off when the page is trimmed to finished size. We need it so you don’t see little strips of white at the edges of the finished job. For more information on this please visit the ‘Artwork’ page on our website.

How long will it take to receive my completed order?

Once we have approval to print most orders are produced within 5-7 working days. Delivery is usually 1-2 days. Some jobs take longer for us to produce than others. Please specify if you require your order delivered by a certain date and we will do our best to accommodate.

How will my order be delivered?

You will receive your order via a reputable transport company or if it’s within a 30 mile radius of Workington by our own van.

Can we track our delivery?

Yes, if it is coming via a transport company we will supply a consignment number.
